Accessibility Tutorials
These accessibility tutorials were developed by the Assistive Technology Resource Center to aid faculty, staff, student teaching assistants, and anyone else learning to create accessible content. The tutorials walk through the skills needed to advance electronic content along the levels of the Electronic Accessibility Rubric.
How the Tutorials are Organized
The tutorials are organized by three categories:
- Core Concepts: These are aspects of accessibility that apply across all types of documents and content, whether websites or PDF files.
- Specific Content Types: These tutorials explain how to implement the core concepts in specific software, focusing on step-by-step instructions. Each of these tutorial pages contains instructions for meeting the Universal Design Goals for the specific content type, as well as instructions for Full Accessibility.
- Accessibility Tools: There are many tools available to help you build accessible content and to test for accessibility. This sections contains information on such tools.
Use the Rubric
The Electronic Accessibility Rubric is a tool that can help you prioritize the most important tasks for each content type.
The tutorials are organized by the steps in the rubric. Select one or two steps at a time, and practice incorporating them into your content. Once you feel comfortable with one step as part of your workflow, add another.
Accessibility is a continuum. Our goal is to move along the continuum toward better and better accessibility. Every step we take makes our campus more inclusive.
